Veronika Zuzulova is a veteran at a world class level. Like her idol, Alberto Tomba, the Slovak excels in the slalom. Veronika showed immediate promise when she took up skiing at 13 to win an unofficial children's World Championships in Italy the following year. She made her World Cup debut October 28, 2000 at age of 16 in the giant slalom at Soelden, where despite a valiant attempt she failed to finish the first run.

Her first important win arrived in Italy in 2002, on the slopes of the Sella Nevea, where she raced to victory in the slalom at the Junior World Championships. The bubbly Slovak made her Olympic debut the same year at the Salt Lake City Winter Games.

Years later Zuzulova landed on the podium for the first time in the World Cup with a third place in the slalom at Zwiesel on February 8th, 2004. 

At her second Olympic Games in Turin 2006, she finished two events, 15th in the combined and 22nd in the slalom. Her first two attempts to claim World Championships success from St. Anton in 2001, to Santa Caterina in 2005 afforded her only one finish out of three starts but allowed her the opportunity to rub shoulders once again with the best female skiing has on offer.

The World Championships of Are in 2007 was the setting where a more mature skier climbed into the top 10 for the first time at a major event where she completed the super combined in 9th place on the Swedish slopes. 

The 2007/08 season proved successful in terms of consistent finishing with nine top 10 runs, all in the slalom, and her accumulated 501 points pushed her into third place for the small crystal globe behind Marlies Schield.

She married Romain Velez in the spring of 2012 and is now known under the name of Veronika Velez Zuzulova.
