Silvan Zurbriggen will skip the upcoming speed event in Bormio.

The Swiss skier will not race the Men's World Cup downhill scheduled Sunday on the treacherous Stelvio slope because of back pains accused during the latest SL held at Alta Badia.

A former World Slalom silver medalist in 2003 at St. Moritz, Zurbriggen made a stunning comeback at Levi, placing fourth in the Slalom event after almost a year absence due to a severe knee injury suffered in the Gardena DH on December 2007.

The 27-year-old from Brig is hopeful for a quick recovery to race the Slalom event scheduled at Zagreb-Sljeme on January 6th.
