Werner Heel hopes for comeback with Atomic

The Italian speed specialist Werner Heel is switching to Atomic skis for next season. Two years ago the then-3rd-ranked downhill racer swapped from Rossignol to Head – a move that did not quite produce the expected results. In the 2011/12 season, Heel scored only 10 points in downhill and 35 in super-G, finishing the season 45th in downhill rankings, 35th in super-G rankings and 97th in the overall rankings. In the previous season, Heel still managed five finishes in the top 10. As a result Heel failed to confirm a spot on the National Team and instead was relegated to the group of athletes with "national interest" by FISI.

“It is painful,“ admitted Heel to suedtirolski.com who also did not benefit from ski boot change right before Wengen where he switched from Head to Lange. After much testing and negotiations Heel will now return to Atomic, the brand he skied in his youth. “I am looking forward to skiing the new equipment, I am feeling well although there is a lot of work waiting for me,“ Heel commented to suedtirolski.com. Teammate Peter Fill also skis Atomic since the 2008/2009 season.
