Each year, the Women's Sports Foundation provides a chance to recognize the superhuman efforts that distinguish two champion athletes (one individual, one team) as the Sportswoman of the Year. For the 2010 award, the nominees were selected based on their athletic achievements between 1st August 2009 and 31st July 2010. The Women's Sports Foundation was founded by Billie Jean King in 1974, and works to promote sports and physical activity for girls and women.

This year's 10 outstanding nominees for the individual award includes one Alpine skier representative: Lindsey Vonn (USA), who won the coveted Olympic downhill title in Vancouver, as well as the overall FIS Alpine Ski World Cup standings for the third time in row last season, collected the small crystal globes for the downhill, super-G and super combined rankings, and set a number of international and national records. She also won the ESPY for the Best Female Athlete of the Year and best Olympic Female Athlete in July.

Anyone can vote to decide who should be honored for their outstanding accomplishments as the Sportswoman of the Year. Award winners will be announced on 12th October 2010, and honored at the Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Dinner at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City. To vote, click here.
