Philipp Schörghofer (AUT) has signed a two-year agreement with Fischer. After Grange (FRA) and Herbst (AUT), Schörghofer is the third big name joining Fischer for next season. He comments on why the change.
You skied on Fischer until 2008 and are now returning – how do you see this comeback?
Schörghofer: For me the change is a new challenge which excites me and motivates me. The tests were very promising. The coaches’ were of the opinion that I ski as if I had always been on these skis.
What is your reason to try something new?
Schörghofer: Honestly? If someone had told me two months ago that I am going to change equipment I would have not believed it. But because it is a change year I wanted to see how another brand works. I went to Fischer because I was curious and some really good giant slalom racers like Richard and Fanara are skiing so well.
You did extensive testing – what convinced you?
Schörghofer: I had three days of testing. The third one in Innerkrems was amazing. I had a very good feeling, the set up was perfect. The good equipment is what made the difference. And what is very important for me is that an experienced and good service man – Franz Knauss – will support me.
You also tested Fischer’s newest product – the VACUUM FIT boot. What do you think about that?
Schörghofer: I was definitely fastest with those. The boot fits well, is very light and feels like one unit with the whole package. I am sure that this aggressive boot will be an advantage with the new material rules.
What do you expect from your equipment partner?
Schörghofer: Professionalism, the same that the company expects from me. Good equipment and good marketing. The quality is most important.
What are your goals for next season?
Schörghofer: The giant slalom globe really appeals to me. I also want to be fast in super-G and slalom.
