Carolina Ruiz Castillo led the pack on Thursday in downhill training for the women’s super-combined event at Tarvisio in Italy.
The Spaniard came down in a time of 2:01:78 ahead of America’s Stacy Cook who was just 05/100 off the pace.
Completing the trio of relative surprises was Fabienne Suter of Switzerland who skied the course in 2:01:90.
World super-combined bronze medalist Elizabeth Goergl, who was fastest during Wednesday’s session, put in another competitive time to finish sixth in 2:02:20.
World Cup leader Lindsey Vonn was just outside the top ten as the American took 12th spot, a minute and thirteen seconds behind the leader.
The real action begins on Friday with the super-combined, followed by the downhill on Saturday and a super G Sunday.
