A further highlight of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup finals in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a Charity Race with Right To Play athlete ambassadors that will be held after the season closing slalom competitions on Saturday.
The Charity Race is a team event which will be carried out as a parallel slalom on the Gudiberg piste in Garmisch starting around 14:30 CET on 13th March. The Right To Play athlete ambassadors participating in the Charity Race will include Marco Büchel, whose illustrious World Cup career is culminating in Thursday's super-G race, Aksel Lund Svindal, Bernhard Russi, Anja Pärson, Emily Brydon und Britt Janyk. The participating teams are sponsoring the race with a start fee of EUR 5'000 of which EUR 3'500 are directly donated to Right To Play.
Marco Büchel may be bidding farewell to his career as racer in the World Cup, however, the ski world will be happy to know that they will continue to benefit from his engagement and wit into the future. As of next season, Büchel plans to accompany the World Cup tour as an expert commentator for Germany's ZDF. He also plans to continue his engagement for Right To Play, the humanitarian organization that works to benefit children and youngsters in the deprived regions of the world through sport.
"I am very grateful for all the opportunities that life has offered me to enable me to fulfill my goals and dreams. That is why I am happy to engage as a Right To Play athlete ambassador and to give something back to the disadvantaged children of this world," said Büchel who is also the patron of a Right To Play Après Ski VIP Charity Party on Saturday night.
