It is a long time since Reinfried Herbst last went skiing. After two operations in the last months it was finally time to return to skiing in the last few days. The Salzburg-resident, winner of the slalom FIS World Cup in 2009/2010, reports on his webpage that he has been training on the Hintertux glacier.

The last time skiing for Herbst before this week it was at the FIS World Cup Finals in Schladming. "After the shoulder operation and the knee treatment I have been in physical therapy constantly and training hard for fitness and strength. The first two days on the glacier were like a dream - I went free skiing and it was a lot of fun. I am so happy to back doing my sport," said Reinfried Herbst after the first ski training units.

He did not feel any pain in his shoulder or the knee: "All went well, I had no pain in the knee and no swelling. That is how I imagined the return to skiing. The new equipment felt good too and now the plan is to get going with ski training gradually and in two weeks I should be able to return to gate training. Then I still have another month of time to prepare myself for the World Cup slalom opening."
