Norway's men's team loses top coach

Marius Arnesen (38), who was a very successful coach for the Norwegian Alpine men during the past five years, decided to retire as he wants to spend more time with his family. Under him, Aksel Lund Svindal captured the overall World Cup title twice (2007 and 2009). At the Olympic Games in Vancouver the Norwegian men's team won four medals. Svindal earned a complete set including gold in super G, silver in downhill and bronze in giant slalom, while his teammate Kjetil Jansrud won silver in the giant slalom.

Svindal thanked Arnesen on his personal website on Tuesday for being "the best coach I could ever ask for." He adds that Arnesen has been great but he also understands his coach's decision. Svindal says that the last five years with him have been amazing and that Arnesen understood how to support the team not only in good times but also when things were not going so well.
