Like her famous teammate Marlies Schild, who already declared forfait for the Sölden event, Michaela Kirchgasser has decided to skip the season opening giant slalom in Sölden this week Saturday. Following a training crash last week in Hintertux she hit her left knee, which she had operated in May 2010. Kirchgasserd decided with her coaches on Monday to allow some more time for the knee's recovery and hence skip the opening in Sölden .
"Sölden or ski racing in general only makes sense if you are 100 % fit and can give it 100 %. This is at the moment not possible and hence my decision is easily justified. I will use this week for intensive therapy, to be fully fit for the entire winter season,“, explaed Kirchgasser her decision.Kirchgasser plans to start at the Slalom Opening in Levi (FIN) as planned.
