American Lindsey Vonn has been training at Vail since the 1990s after moving moved there from Minnesota. In recognition of her many achievements in ski racing and that she represents Vail's first ever gold medal, Vail Resorts and the entire Vail community announced a few days ago that it is renaming the "International" run, an expert trail on the front side of Vail Mountain after Vonn.
The new trail will be renamed "Lindsey's". It is a fitting choice as it was the site of the women's speed events during the World Alpine Ski Championships at Vail and Beaver Creek in 1989 and 1999. The trail sign was put up by Monday morning.
"We could not be prouder of Lindsey and her success at the Olympic Games. She truly embodies the Vail spirit with her perseverance in the face of adversity, dedication and hard work, and commitment to excellence - both on and off the snow," said Rob Katz, chairman and chief executive officer of Vail Resorts. "We are excited to welcome Lindsey home to her new run."
Vonn currently leads the overall World Cup Standings, and still has two more events, including the finals in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany March 10-14, as she goes for her third consecutive overall World Cup title.
