Levi, Finland is ready to start making snow for the Slalom Opening of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup 2011/12 season. The snow guns on the race hill known as 'Levi Black' are on hold, and have been for a while, as the organizers are just waiting for the temperature to sink. However, the organizing team is confident. Mikko Saarinen, General Secretary of World Cup Levi, trusts the capacity of the new snow-making system.

“We are ready and we will start making snow as soon as the weather is optimal. Last year we had the same schedule and we were able to make a large amount of snow in a single day.”

The official FIS Snow Control in Levi will take place on Thursday, 3rd November. Hans Pieren, the FIS Race Director for the men's technical events, will be on site then.

Pieren commented: "Right now it is not yet cold enough to produce snow in Finnish Lapland. However, it is a very good and experienced team that we are working with at Levi. As we saw last year, when all the required snow was produced in optimal conditions in just 24 hours, the resort of Levi now has a top-modern snow-making system. Had this system been in place in 2007, the race would have taken place then too. I am positive about us being ready in time.”
