American skier T.J. Lanning suffered an injury during the opening training in Bormio.

The Utah-native crashed at high speed in the lower section of Stelvio slope after losing control of his skis and slammed into the safety net.

Lanning underwent medical check for facial cuts and a bruised knee.

The 24-year-old was having a decent season after a career plagued by healthy problems. Lanning had collected two Top 10 finishes at Lake Louise, where he was ninth, and Val Gardena, where he took the tenth place.

The US racers struggled today on the icy and treacherous Stelvio slope. Bode Miller was the best, coming out in 15th position, while Steven Nyman didn't cross the finish line.

Marco Sullivan and Bryon Friedman missed a gate and were disqualified.
