Pain in the right knee is forcing Felix Neutreuther to take a training and racing break. The original plan called for Neureuther to fly to the USA on Friday to train and prepare for the giant slalom in Beaver Creek on 4th December.

However, strong pain in his right knee forced the 27-year-old to change his plans. “I started feeling pain in my right knee in the past several weeks,” he says. “Although I have massively reduced my training load, there has been no improvement.” An examination showed cartilage damage in the right knee as well as an edema which was the main cause of pain.

Neureuther is being treated intensively and hopes to be fit soon again. “I would love to start in Beaver Creek. The decision is dependent on how fast my knee is healing. A start makes only sense if I am fit.”

DSV Sport Chief Wolfgang Maier said: “It is not easy for us to compensate Felix Neureuther but for him it is important to use the coming weeks to get healthy again. The slalom season really starts in January and until then he needs to focus on healing.”
