Skiing legend Karl Schranz got injured on a ski tour in St. Anton am Arlberg, Tyrol (AUT) on March 24. The 71-year-old has been hospitalised after suffering a severe concussion and bruised ribs.
According to a spokesman at Zams clinic in Austria, where the three-time Alpine skiing world champion is hopitalised, Schranz had only fragmentary memory of the incident.
The Austrian skiing legend told the Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper: "I'm fine. Thank God nothing worse happened. I was probably lucky to have been wearing a helmet."
Despite his injuries, Schranz, who won World Cup races mostly in downhill and giant slalom in the 1960s, skied down to the valley on his own to call his wife on his mobile.
Doctors said he would probably be released from hospital on March 26.
