Carlo Janka is a champion with a good heart. At a charity evening on the lake of Zurich passenger boat "Panta Rhei" the Olympic champion world champion and overall World Cup winner collected 73 000 Swiss francs for a charity project in Caruaru in northeastern Brazil.

Before an illustrious group of high-profile business leaders and sports fans Janka auctioned items like bibs, helmets, an Olympic race suit or the official team jacket. A special model of his double-deck-skis, with which he had bestowed Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson in April, brought in the most with 10 000 Swiss francs. 7500 Swiss francs were offered for a day of skiing with Janka and his bib that the athlete from Grisons was wore in the decisive race in the battle for the Overall World Cup.

The skier launched the charity event that was moderated by former Miss Switzerland Tanja Gutmann with the donation of the same 10 000 Swiss francs he received as athlete of the year in Grisons. The proceeds will be used primarily for the construction of biogas plants at the defined sites. "Without help, we are all lost, even I as an athlete," said Janka. "With this action, I would like to support people who do not need help for victory and glory, but for survival."
