Whilst the Southern hemisphere season is getting snowier, there are only some 10 resorts open in the Northern hemisphere currently. Most of the ski teams seem to look for snow on Passo Stelvio (ITA), Mölltal or Hintertux (AUT), Les 2 Alpes (FRA), or in Saas Fee or Zermatt (SUI).
The Italian ladies' tech team will be training in Saas Fee starting from 31st July under coach Stephen Costazza. The athletes training in Switzerland until 4th August will include Denise Karbon, Nicole Gius, Giulia Gianesini, Federica Brignone, Chiara Costazza, Lisa Agerer, and Irene Curtoni. Manuela Mölgg will be missing due to an inflamation in her knee.
Costazza commented: "The team's situation is quite good. We did great work in conditioning training, increasing the number of days. As far as skiing, we had a very useful trip to train indoors in Landgraaf (NED), and then - as is normal - we lost some days due to bad weather in the Alps. So, now we have high hopes for the camp in Saas Fee and hope to make a big step forward before we leave for Ushuaia where we will be from 16th August to 10th September."
Manuela Moelgg will have to skip the Saas Fee camp because of an inflamed right knee. Nothing too serious, but she prefers to skip Saas Fee to do physical therapy and get ready for the trip to Argentina.
The two returnees (Agerer and Costazza) will be training on snow in Switzerland with alternating sessions of conditioning, while the others will be training two days of slalom and giant slalom each.
"Curtoni's hip has recovered and is now better," continued Costazza, "and Karbon is continuing to do special exercises to support the muscles on her right knee, which is looking good and currently does not need any additional intervention. Brignone lost a few days due to a crash on the bike. Gius is very motivated and active as is Gianesini, who missed the indoor training due to illness. "
The training camp in Saas Fee will be the final one in the Alps before leaving for Argentina.
