French tech star Jean Baptiste Grange claimed the gold medal in the men’s slalom in the 2011 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER). At the end of the 2011/12 season, he suffered an unfortunate knee injury. In this interview JB talks about his summer time and season preparations.
You are coming back from injury, how are you going and what is your goal for the coming winter season?
Jean-Baptiste Grange: “I broke my knee ligament in March this year and had a surgery in April. I am still in rehabilitation and will have to train hard to be get back in shape for the winter. I think I might be a bit late for the season start, but I hope to be in good shape condition for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming.”
Q. You have to train hard to get and stay in shape, also during summer. What is your favorite exercise?
JB: “Yes we have to train hard during summer, and physical training is a big part of this training. I do lot of weight training and cycling at this time, but for me it is important to do some other sports as well. I like to play ice hockey, do motor cycling in the mountains and play tennis. My favourite exercise is to work on my balance and stability. Our workouts contain swissball and slackline exercises which is much more fun compared to weight training.”
Q. In your view, what is the best/worst about summer training?
JB: “For me the worst about summer training is that you have to work really hard and you will have to wait for the winter to actually compete. What I particularly like about skiing is to compete against the other athletes, but the time is long to be in a good shape for the season and we all have to be patient. The best is that I can spend lot of time at home and see family and friends. I enjoy staying in my home village during summer time.”
Q: If during training, some artist in your IPod could come to life, who would it be and why?JB: “My best song for training and competing is "gabriela y rodrigo". I like theise kind of songs and it’s really good during training to cheer you up.”
Q: If you could go for a swim anywhere in the world this summer, where would it be?
JB: “I think I would like to go for a swim at Martinique, the French Caribbean Island. There are some really nice beaches and the ocean which is perfect for a swim.”
