On Tuesday, Jan. 12, the Austrian resort Flachau will once again host the FIS Ski-Worldcup - this time as a premiere with a Ladies night-slalom. The Flachau snow space Ladies Skinight" is held under floodlights on the established Hermann Maier World Cup course.
There will be celebrations framing the race. New this year is a World Cup Party Mile in the centre of the city. Several live bands, Ö3 DJ Alex List and KRONE moderator Harry Prünster will provide for a cheerful and festive atmosphere. Between the runs the top act called the ‘FMX4ever' is scheduled to entertain.
As there are only 4 more days to the start of the World Cup slalom, preparations are well advanced. The race course is already in good condition. Also the open air stage and the ramp for the FMX4ever motocross freestyle show are being built. Work on the press and media centre is also on track.
The Organizing Committee is hoping that the hype and fight between the Austrian ladies ski team (e.g. Marlies Schild and Kathrin Zettel) and the German ladies ski team (Riesch sisters and others) will have a positive impact on the number of spectators. Around 10.000 spectators are expected to show up at the site of the race.
After Zagreb, the Flachau slalom features the second highest prize money for a technical race offering €110,000 prize money.
Flachau is right after Haus im Ennstal the second Austrian wintersport destination hosting World Cup races after a longer break. The last World Cups held in Flachau were men's races in December 2004.
Organizers and fans would of course like to see their local hero Hermann Maier, who recently retired from competitive ski racing, among the expected 10.000 spectators. After all, the race course is now called after him.
While the French Sandrine Aubert was crowned the ‘Snow Queen' in Zagreb this past Sunday, Jan. 3, Flachau's will elect its ‘Snow Space Princess' on the following Tuesday, Jan. 12.
