The Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup race in Levi got its final confirmation on Monday when the International Ski Federation confirmed that there is enough snow on the Levi Black slope. The snow control pointed out that the snow situation is better than ever.
"Situation with the snow is better than ever before at this time of the year. We have succeeded in snow-making and shaping the Levi Black race course very well. There is also enough snow in the safety areas. Hans Pieren, FIS Race Director for men's technical events was very satisfied with the conditions on the race slope", said Tapio Kokko, Chief of Competition at the Levi World Cup.
The next step in finishing the race slope is injecting which means freezing the hill with about two million liters of water. Injecting makes the hill durable during the race.
"The weather might be a little bit challenging in the next few days, but I believe that we will finish injecting by Wednesday evening. We will also work during the nighttime if it´s necessary", Kokko continues.
Construction in the race area will continue next Monday. The biggest task is building the fences of the safety nets and setting up the finish area, safety mats and advertisement banners. Depending on the weather conditions there might be also be the need to remove extra snow from the slope.
The other construction projects in Levi are well on schedule. Lainapeite is progressing well in building tents, auditoriums and stages for the race area and the center of Levi.
