There could not have been a worthier setting than the last downhill race in the Final series of the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2010: What started out at this year's Hahnenkamm Downhill in Kitzbühel on January 23, 2010, found its successful closing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on March 10, 2010 where many racers of the charity-auction "Downhillers for Haiti" were able to receive two checks in the amount of € 121.193,05 in total.
Together with the Hahnenkamm Race Organizers, the Kitzbühel Ski Club (K.S.C.), athletes participating in this year's 70th Hahnenkamm Races were able to collect a considerable sum of money to donate to the earthquake victims in Haiti. The 59 signed start numbers of the ski stars were auctioned on eBay for a total of 56,193.05 Euros for the benefit of the earthquake victims in Haiti.
The auction was an incredible success.
Various Hahnenkamm race partners were so impressed by this charity campaign that they donated an additional 45.000 Euros. The winner of the Hahnenkamm Super-G and Hahnenkamm Downhill, Didier Cuche from Switzlerland, provided another emotional climax as he spontaneously donated an additional 20,000 Euros for „Downhillers for Haiti"during the prize giving ceremony at the KitzRaceParty, meaning that an impressive sum of 65,000 Euros could be added to the proceeds of the eBay auction.
Acting on this initiative, bwin also spontaneously decided to contribute the 35,000 Euro winnings from the Charity Poker Tournament to this campaign. Famous guests played poker in the Hahnenkamm Marketing Company, WWP Weirather-Wenzel and Partners VIP marquee during the KitzRaceParty, all in aid of this good cause.
Donations were completed with a further 10,000 Euros, contributed by a Hahnenkamm Associate, resulting in the significant sum of € 121.193,05. After finalizing the auction transactions, this entire sum of money will be handed over to the International Red Cross to aid Haiti and its earthquake victims.
