Close to 700’000 spectators at the FIS Alpine World Cup events

The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup tour again attracted a large number of fans this past season. The World Cups, which were organized in 14 nations at 33 sites, were attended by close to 700’000 spectators during the past 2010/2011 season, thus increasing by 27% compared to the previous 2009/2010 season. These numbers exclude the spectators at the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships 2011 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany and the Finals in Lenzerheide, Switzerland

During the long season, from October 2010 to March 2011, 79 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup competitions were carried out.

On the men’s side a total of 40 World Cup competitions were carried out and the event with the most spectators was the slalom in Schladming, Austria, with 45’900 spectators taking place on 25th January 2011. In second place follows the Kitzbühel downhill in Austria on 22nd January 2011, which was attended by 45’000 spectators.

Out of the 39 organized World Cup events for the ladies, the slaloms in Courchevel, France, on 21st December 2010, and in Semmering, Austria, on 29th December 2010 collected the most spectators - each 17’000 - ahead of the Flachau slalom on 11th January 2011 which saw 15’000 spectators enjoying the athletes’ spectacular performances.
