Joel Chenal has announced his retirement from active skiing.

The French skier decided to hang up his boots after an extremely disappointing World Cup season.

Chenal was not selected for the World Championships in his own country and failed to qualify for the GS World Cup Finals in Are, Sweden, remaining out of Top 25 by only two points.

The 35-year-old from Moutiers managed a 16th place in Adelboden as best result in the current season.

A former Olympic silver medalist in 2006, Chenal won only one time in his career, triumphing in the Giant Slalom race held at Alta Badia in 1999.

He added three more podium finishes (2nd at Kranjska Gora and 3rd at Yong Pyong in the 1999-2000 season and another third place in 2003-2004 at Sestriere) in a 14-year career on the major circuit.

Chenal's fellow teammate Frederic Covili also retired a few weeks ago.
