There are only few days left until the party of the year will take place in Flachau on Monday, December 7, 2009 [which is also Hermann's birthday, Ed.]. While wintery conditions are prevailing in the ski resort and the ski lifts are open, down in the valley preparations are underway for the event to be staged in honor of Hermann Maier.

The festivities are scheduled to begin at 18:30 CET on the main town square. They are moderated by Didi Ziesel, known as the voice of the Hahnenkamm. At the same time, there are a series of attractions planned, which will accompany the ceremonial activities in honor of Hermann. Subsequently, the festive processions will relocate to the pavilion at the Gutshof where a show will be held for about 75 minutes starting at 20:00 CET.

Ö3-speaker Tom Walek will guide through the program that will include the appearance of former ski companions, celebrities and some globally known athletes. Entertainment is guaranteed including some surprises...

Media rush

A media rush of enormous dimensions is bound to occur. The Bavarian broadcast company plans to send live sections during the transmission of Blickpunkt Sport and the Austrian TV station ORF will replay the event on Tuesday next week. Besides this, a large number of domestic and foreign press representatives are expected to be in Flachau.

Transportation Restrictions

Due to expected high public interest - no entrance fee will be charge for the event - a separate transportation concept has been developed. The main through-road in Flachau will be closed off from 17:30 CET until approx. 20:00 CET starting from the Unterberggasse. Guests will be diverted to the parking area called 8er Jet from where a shuttle service will them to the town center as well as to the pavilion starting at 17:30 CET until 22:00 CET.
