The Ski Austria men's downhill team is in the midst of intensive preparations for the upcoming World Championship season. Klaus Kröll, Romed Baumann, Georg Streitberger, Max Franz and Florian Scheiber have been training for the last three days in Health & Sport Center in Gastein.
The men's head coach Mathias Berthold summarized: "The preparations have been going well so far, partially with extremely good individual performances. The only negative is that not all athletes could take part in our overseas camp. Reinfried Herbst, Klaus Kröll and Matthias Mayer are only now gradually beginning their training on the snow. The glacier camps until the first races have a very important role for us. Everyone is fully focused and engaged. The home Worlds are for us of course a very special occasion and we are looking forward to Schladming 2013. But it is not controlling us at this time.“
Klaus Kröll commented: "Physically I am doing well again. I have been able to train well in the last weeks and am confident that I will be able to return to skiing soon. First I do need to get the go from my doctor, however. There is still enough time until Lake Louise.“
Romed Baumann noted: "I really could use the week and a half break after the tough training camp in Chile. My motivation going into such an important season is very high. I would like to be part of the team at the Worlds but will of course need to qualify first. I have already seen in the training that we will again be very strong as a team. The change (Note: equipment change to Blizzard) has not been easy. I have been testing a lot and am now looking forward to being ready to attack when it counts."
Georg Streitberger concluded: "I am doing well. Initially I had some trouble with the eqipment. (Note: Head). But I was able to take full advantage of the camp in Chile for testing the setup. If I can keep up this level of consistency in training and do my homework, I can approach the coming season with full confidence.“Source OeSV
