The Swiss speed ladies have been busy in the last two months geting fit and laying the foundation for the upcoming winter. Intensive individual and team workouts focused on endurance, strength, speed and coordination. The training was diverse but also very demanding.
This week's three-day visit to the Lake Geneva came hence as a nice change to the routine. The noble Hotel Trois Couronnes in Vevey provided the perfect setting for a few days of rest and relaxation, along with a visit at the Montreux Jazz Festival and sailing on the lake on the fast catamaran of Team Parmigiani.
The group of Fränzi Aufdenblatten, Nadja Kamer, Martina Schild and new on team Mirena Küng have been able to complete the entire training plan since early May. Meanwhile the team that was hard hit by injuries last season is now beginning to see the convalescent athletes to join the core group bit by bit. New head coach Hans Flatscher is pleased about the engagement and happy to see Dominique Gisin, Fabienne Suter, Andrea Dettling and Marianne Kaufmann-Abderhalden so well on their way back and able to participate in the training.
The Swiss ladies will return to snow in two weeks in Zermatt and Saas-Fee. At the end of July the speed group (WC1) will be flying to South America – Ushuaia – for training for the first time.
