Ted Ligety (born August 31, 1984 in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States) was on skis at the age of two and began racing at 11. He grew up in Park City, Utah, where he caught the eye of U.S. Ski Team coaches and they watched him for a while before calling him to the U.S. Development Team. He made his WC debut in 2003 on the home snow of Park City, but failed to qualify for the second run. A slalom silver medallist in the 2004 Junior World Championships at Maribor, a couple of weeks after his first honour, Ligety earned his first WC points in the same year, placing a 23rd position in the slalom race at Kranjska Gora. 2005 was the first full year for Ligety on the WC circuit and he instantly caught the eye. The US racer dedicated more and more time to learning the speed skills continually improving his all round ability while in training he concentrated mostly on the Giant Slalom.
